Domus Nova x GF @ Shakespeare in the Square
Back in the summer of 2016, our long time supporters, Domus Nova invited us to participate in an exciting community arts event they were sponsoring. Shakespeare in the Square took place in several public gardens throughout the borough, inviting people to come and enjoy their green spaces as never before, with specially adapted productions of the popular romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. Domus Nova embarked upon it with a noble question in mind; what’s a garden get-together, without fresh summer cocktails? So they commissioned Goldfinger Factory to design and build a pop-up cocktail bar, to keep the the thespian crowds refreshed.
Our commission included the cocktail bar, a banquet table, benches, and stools. With circular design principles at the heart of Goldfinger Factory’s work, this project used reclaimed materials from one of the city’s newest sustainable landmarks, The Bloomberg Building. The rescued materials were then resourcefully redesigned, and crafted into event furniture.
The bar featured an unusual flower / honeycomb structured front panel, reclaimed from Bloomberg HQ via our materials partner, Sir Robert McAlpine. The Bloomberg Building itself has impressive sustainability credentials, and holds a BREEAM Outstanding rating - it was exciting to incorporate their components into our design process, building a functional and fun summer pop-up. Shakespeare in the Square celebrated community and the arts, which are both central to Goldfinger Factory, and the work we do.
